Monroe University is a Yellow Ribbon Program participant — helping veterans cover tuition costs that exceed the Post-9/11 GI Bill cap at no additional cost to eligible students.

We understand that military life is demanding and unpredictable. That's why we've built a learning environment designed around your needs — including flexible scheduling, robust financial benefits, and a dedicated student veterans community.

Flexible Attendance

Student veterans and active duty military are required to attend only one class on campus. Complete the rest of your coursework online — on your schedule, wherever you are. Online courses at Monroe carry the same academic rigor and credential value as in-person classes.

Education Benefits

Monroe University is approved for all major VA education programs, as well as Active Duty Tuition Assistance. Accepted benefits include:

Chapter 33 — Post-9/11 GI Bill: The most comprehensive VA benefit for post-2001 service.
Chapter 31 — VR&E (Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment): For veterans with service-connected disabilities.
Chapter 35 — Survivors’ & Dependents’ Education Assistance: For eligible dependents and spouses.
Chapter 1606 — Montgomery GI Bill (Selected Reserve): For members of the Selected Reserve.
Tuition Assistance (TA): For active duty, Guard, and Reserve members.

Up to 100% tuition & fees covered (based on eligibility tier)
Monthly housing allowance (BAH) while enrolled
Annual stipend for books & supplies
Yellow Ribbon Program bridges any gap for full-time students at 100% tier

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) — Graduate

Covers tuition & fees up to the applicable VA maximum
Housing allowance paid monthly during enrollment
Yellow Ribbon coverage available for graduate-level programs
Use remaining months of your 36-month entitlement
Consult your SCO to verify benefit eligibility for your program

VR&E (Chapter 31) — Undergraduate

Full tuition & fees paid directly to Monroe
Monthly subsistence allowance
Books, supplies, and tutorial assistance covered
Requires service-connected disability rating & VA counselor approval

VR&E (Chapter 31) — Graduate

Full coverage for approved graduate programs
Subsistence allowance continues through graduate study
Program must align with vocational rehabilitation plan
Work directly with your VA vocational rehabilitation counselor

Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)

ROTC programs allow eligible students to develop leadership skills, earn a commission as a U.S. military officer, and potentially receive scholarship funding to help pay for their Monroe education. Students enrolled in ROTC can often combine ROTC scholarships with other military education benefits. Speak with our admissions team about how ROTC fits into your academic plan and what scholarship opportunities may be available to you.

Student Veterans of America Club

Monroe University has an established chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) — the largest student veterans organization in the country. Our chapter exists to connect, support, and empower veteran and military students on campus. Whether you're looking for peer support, networking, or simply want to be around people who get it — this club is for you.

Mental Health & Wellness

We recognize that the transition from military to academic life — and the challenges of service itself — can take a mental and emotional toll. Monroe University offers confidential mental health and wellness resources for all enrolled students. You don't have to navigate it alone.
