Monroe University offers veterans the flexibility of a hybrid degree program where they can earn their degree primarily online and virtually while attending just one required in-person class session at our Bronx campus each semester.
Eligible students attending classes on our Bronx campus may qualify for the New York City Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) maximum amount of $5,073 through their VA education benefits, subject to VA eligibility requirements and current regulations. Eligibility and payment amounts are determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs based on each student’s benefit level, enrollment status, course schedule, and current VA regulations.
Hybrid Degree Program
Flexible Format for Veterans & Active Duty Military
Only one required in-person session per semester at Monroe's Bronx campus.
Complete the remainder of your coursework online and virtually, giving you the flexibility to balance school, work, and family.
Undergraduate Programs
Attend courses online and virtually.
Enroll in full time 12 credits each semester.
Participate in one required virtual class every Friday.
Attend one mandatory in-person session each semester at the Bronx campus.

Graduate Programs
Complete all classes virtually.
Enroll in full time 7-9 credits each semester.

Education Benefits
Monroe University is approved for all major VA education programs, as well as Active Duty Tuition Assistance. Accepted benefits include:
Chapter 33 — Post-9/11 GI Bill: The most comprehensive VA benefit for post-2001 service.
Chapter 31 — VR&E (Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment): For veterans with service-connected disabilities.
Chapter 35 — Survivors’ & Dependents’ Education Assistance: For eligible dependents and spouses.
Chapter 1606 — Montgomery GI Bill (Selected Reserve): For members of the Selected Reserve.
Tuition Assistance (TA): For active duty, Guard, and Reserve members.

Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)
ROTC programs allow eligible students to develop leadership skills, earn a commission as a U.S. military officer, and potentially receive scholarship funding to help pay for their Monroe education. Students enrolled in ROTC can often combine ROTC scholarships with other military education benefits. Student Veterans of America Club
Monroe University has an established chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) — the largest student veterans organization in the country. Our chapter exists to connect, support, and empower veteran and military students on campus.
